Lead Teaching Pastor & Pastor of Family Ministries email

I grew up in the Lutheran church, went off to Purdue, studied Civil Engineering, got in lots of trouble, met my wife Christy, who studied Occupational Therapy at IU, got married in 1999, and moved to Valparaiso. We decided that we should probably check out a church, but I remember telling Christy, “I’m NOT going to that church.” But I wanted to play softball and Calvary had a team. The rest is history. Twenty years later, here I am, changed forever by the gospel, preaching God’s Word on Sunday mornings, and giving my life to this church family. I still play softball – although it takes a few days to recover after a game now – but the majority of our time outside of ministry is spent enjoying our 3 kids Katie, Lydia, and Joel. We’re watching them grow up way too fast and trying to encourage them in the variety of ways that God has gifted and wired them.

My heart is to communicate the word of God with clarity, boldness, and relevance – to create an environment of grace where the Holy Spirit would show up to change and shape our lives forever! Whether we are teaching, counseling, or serving our Children’s Ministries team, Christy and I have one overriding aspiration: to simply speak the truth in love and encourage our family at Calvary to see just how incredible and awesome Jesus is. God has given us more than 20 years to grow with this family at Calvary, and to say that we have been blessed beyond measure is an understatement. I believe with all my heart that the church, the people of God, are an incomparable means of grace in our life. If you’re looking for a safe place to belong, I'd invite you to lean in to the community at Calvary and see what God would do!
