READ THROUGH THE BIBLE IN 2024

A challenge for the Calvary Church community

A NOTE FROM JOSH

As in past years, we're challenging you to read the Bible in a year, and we hope you're going to take the challenge! If you don't already have a daily devotional time, or if you do but you like to do it on-the-go, you'll find you have to create some new habits this year. Reading the Bible in a year takes a commitment of time and focus on a daily or near-daily basis. But it is so worth it for what you'll get back in understanding about God and your own faith. This book was written for you. Choose a plan. Read it. Treasure it. Store its words in your heart and mind and let them come out of your mouth!

THE BIBLE PROJECT
One of our favorites!

What we love: It's semi-chronological and so takes you through the story of God's people from creation to Revelation in a way that helps you make connections between the Old Testament promises and the New Testament fulfillment of those promises. Learning to pray the Scriptures by praying slowly through a Psalm each day is a habit that will serve you well for the rest of your life. And of course, there are the videos; we love the videos from BP for their depth and engagement. See an example below

Where to get it: Download a PDF of the plan and watch the videos on the Bible Project website or YouTube channel.

Who it's good for: personal reading, those reading through the Bible for the first time, families with kids and teens, people who are visual learners

ROBERT MURRAY M’CHEYNE PLAN
Add D. A. Carson’s devos for an in-depth study

What we love: The Robert Murray M'Cheyne (pronounced MacShane) plan is an ambitious reading plan - 4 readings per day - that takes you once through the Old Testament and twice through the New Testament and Psalms. Theologian D. A. Carson wrote a devotional book using the plan that makes for a feast of scriptural reading and explication. It is organized in such a way as to help you see how Scripture connects across the millennia from Old to New to today.

Where to get it: D. A. Carson's book For the Love of God is worth the investment. If you prefer to just follow the reading plan, download 18th-century pastor M'Cheyne’s original plan and note to his church members.

Who it's good for: personal reading, those looking for a more ambitious reading plan, those wanting a fresh perspective on how the Old and New Testaments connect
