Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:10
Priorities in the Bible are so often the inverse of what’s in our current culture like “the first shall be last” (Matthew 20:16) and “the greatest among you will be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). “Valuing others above ourselves” (Philippians 2:3) can seem downright unnatural, yet there it is clearly stated again in 1 Peter 4:10.
I will never forget the middle school volunteer who was so amazed that God could use him in ministry that he couldn’t sleep. He jumped out of bed at 3a and drove to my house and taped a note on my windshield. “I just can’t believe that God would use a 50 year old engineer to help change the lives of these middle school students.”
God calls us to something great. Not just something bigger than yourself, though that is true, but to something that impacts eternity. I can’t wait until 1000 years from now when we will be hanging out together remembering the privilege of serving Jesus back on earth.
Lord, open doors for me to serve you. Direct me and challenge my priorities. Let me make a bigger contribution that will last into eternity. Thank you in humility that you would use me to help accomplish such wonderful work.
